zuno tui
zuno tui starts the interactive terminal application, where you can steer a session while it runs, answer permission prompts, and read the durable transcript as it is written. It is also what zuno does when you give it no subcommand, so the two forms are interchangeable.
Use its options to preselect a model or agent, resume prior work, or submit an opening prompt so the session starts working immediately after launch. A resumed session (--continue, --session) opens on the Agent, model, and reasoning level it last ran with; --model and --agent outrank the saved values for this process.
Synopsis
zuno tui [OPTIONS]Options
| Option | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
--prompt <PROMPT> | Submit this prompt on start, as though it had been typed and sent | |
-v, --version | Show the Zuno package version | |
-m, --model <MODEL> | The model to use, as provider/model | |
--agent <AGENT> | The agent to use | |
--print-logs | Print logs to stderr in addition to the structured local log store | |
-c, --continue | Continue the most recent session in this directory | |
--log-level <LOG_LEVEL> | Set the minimum log level. Possible values: TRACE, DEBUG, INFO, WARN, ERROR | |
-s, --session <SESSION> | Talk in this exact session | |
--sandbox <SANDBOX> | Select Shell confinement for this invocation. Possible values: read-only, workspace-write, danger-full-access | |
--sandbox-on-unavailable <ACTION> | Select what happens when confined Shell cannot be deployed. Possible values: deny, run-unconfined | deny |
--sandbox-backend <BACKEND> | Select the Shell execution backend for this invocation; native is not confinement. Possible values: auto, native | platform-dependent |
--auto | Approve every permission that is not explicitly denied, without asking. Upstream's own description ends in "(dangerous!)" and it means it: this replaces the human at the permission prompt, so a tool call the default ruleset would have stopped to ask about proceeds unattended | |
--background | Start the TUI in the persistent local supervisor and attach to it | |
--attach <PTY_ID> | Attach to an existing retained background TUI | |
--background-list | List retained background TUI sessions without starting the supervisor | |
--background-stop <PTY_ID> | Stop and remove one retained background TUI | |
--background-shutdown | Stop the local background-TUI supervisor and every PTY it owns | |
-h, --help | Print help (see a summary with -h) |
Examples
Start the terminal application in the current directory.
zuno tuiResume the most recent session in this checkout rather than opening a new one, on the Agent and model it last used.
zuno tui --continueLaunch with a specific model and an opening prompt already submitted.
zuno tui --model openai/gpt-5 --prompt "review the diff on this branch"Reopen an exact session by id, with Shell confined to reads for this invocation.
zuno tui --session ses_1a2b3c --sandbox read-onlyKeep a TUI alive across an SSH disconnect. Ctrl+] detaches the local terminal without stopping the retained TUI:
zuno tui --background --session ses_1a2b3c
zuno tui --background-list
zuno tui --attach pty_01abc...
zuno tui --background-stop pty_01abc...
zuno tui --background-shutdown2

The supervisor binds only to loopback, creates a random Basic-auth password, and stores its state under the private Zuno data directory. --background-list never starts a missing supervisor. Normal TUI exit still requires two matching Ctrl+C or Ctrl+D presses within 1.5 seconds; that exits the retained child, whereas Ctrl+] only detaches.
Question and resume commands
Enter these commands inside the TUI:
| Command | Behavior |
|---|---|
/questions or /questions list | Show pending requests, saved drafts, and confirmed-answer counts |
/questions open <request-id> or /questions <request-id> | Reopen one request with its stored answers and draft values |
/resume | Explicitly resume paused or completed Work in the current session |
Ctrl+S in a question form saves a durable draft. Even a fully populated draft remains pending; draft text is not sent to the model. Reopening the same session restores saved drafts after a restart. Only explicit submission commits answers, which enter the durable FIFO once. Deferral and empty replies enqueue no model input.
Plan approval requires an explicit approve decision and, for a Draft review, a nonempty risk reason. Neither a highlighted choice nor a saved approval draft starts Work. /resume cannot bypass Plan approval or a required human/external wait. Use /goal resume first when the Goal itself is inactive.
Use /session, /sessions, or /continue to choose a saved session. The full question workflow is described in The terminal application.
